Â鶹ÊÓƵ

Welcome from the Principal

    • Heather Thomas speaks with students outdoors.

“I felt a sense of community the moment I walked through the doors.”
I often hear that from people who visit Â鶹ÊÓƵ. And Â鶹ÊÓƵ’s community truly does set us apart. It is the people that make Â鶹ÊÓƵ what it is: staff, students, parents/guardians, alumni and past families all care about Â鶹ÊÓƵ and they care about each other. Each person in our community contributes to our welcoming environment where people can be their authentic selves.

This starts with the Adviser Program. Each student at Â鶹ÊÓƵ has an Adviser who champions their individual growth in all aspects of school life. The Adviser program runs through a timetabled course for each student in Grades 7-11. Â鶹ÊÓƵ students spend the same amount of time working with their Adviser to develop interpersonal, intrapersonal and social-emotional skills as they do in a math or history class.

Our personalized approach to learning means that students are seen as both learners and people. Teachers get to know their students and can identify when a student needs a greater challenge, more support, or their interests activated. Students are taught and encouraged to identify their own next steps in learning, leading to a customized academic experience

We nurture the whole student; our emphasis on character education sees students foster civic, moral, performance and intellectual character alongside their academic, co-curricular and experiential pursuits.

Our comprehensive Outdoor Education program builds community and resilience. Through this program, students work together and support each other through challenges. Perseverance, problem solving, and listening to others are just a few of the skills students glean on their Outdoor Education trips and then transfer to their classroom, athletics teams, theatre productions, and as they continue their education after high school.

Our alumni go on to do great things. At Â鶹ÊÓƵ, they discovered how they learn best and developed the confidence to seek answers. Alumni apply this knowledge to their postsecondary pursuits. Whatever path they choose, from engineering to business to film, healthcare, arts or law, Â鶹ÊÓƵ graduates have the skills and character it takes to succeed. And our alumni stay connected to Â鶹ÊÓƵ. They return to coach teams, speak on Careers Day, judge our annual Business Case Competition and just say hello to their past teachers and current students.

It has been a great privilege to be a part of Â鶹ÊÓƵ for the past 20 years and to now lead this wonderful school as we venture into the next phase of Â鶹ÊÓƵ’s journey together.

We have strong aspirations for the future, guided by . We will remain at the forefront of education in Ontario, providing a student-centred, experiential academic program that engages students to develop future-ready skills.

I look forward to connecting with you and sharing more about this wonderful community. Please feel welcome to explore our website, attend an upcoming event, or reach out to our Admissions Team if you have any questions about Â鶹ÊÓƵ.

Warmly,

Heather Thomas
Principal

We acknowledge with gratitude the Ancestral lands upon which our main campus is situated. These lands are the Ancestral territories of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy, Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation, Anishinabek and the Wendake. The shared responsibility of this land is honoured in the Dish with One Spoon Treaty and as settlers, we strive to care for the land, the waters, and all creatures in the spirit of peace. We are responsible for respecting and supporting the enduring presence of all First Nations, Métis and Inuit peoples. When away from this campus we vow to be respectful to the land by protecting and honouring it. We will create relationships with the people and the land we may visit by understanding the territories we enter and the nations who inhabit them.
